About Northeast Cuisine

Northeast Cuisine is a dedicated to the expansion and proliferation of Seasonal-Local food in the Northeast US. In our current era of global supply chains we enjoy unprecedented access to foods from around the world. That cosmopolitanism has shaped our media and culture to expect all ingredients, at all times, regardless of classic constraints of climate, geography, cost...or dare we say flavor and quality?

This project builds modern web tools for Seasonal-Local recipe creation, permaculture design, integrated supply chains, and food business.

Use our Recipe Builder to create and export recipes in standard formats, explore the Library for inspiration, check out our Tools for interesting visualizations, or dive into the Map to discover regional specialties near you.

About This Site

This site is built with HTMX and the hypermedia architecture. Instead of a heavy JavaScript framework, the server returns HTML fragments that HTMX swaps into the page — delivering a fast, interactive experience with minimal client-side complexity.

The backend is powered by Django, and pages update dynamically through hypermedia controls: links and forms enhanced with HTMX attributes. The result is a site that feels like a single-page app but stays simple, accessible, and progressively enhanced.

While using this site, many useful documents with structured data are being created in the background. Recipes become sprawling metadata documents with linked data to other entities in our physical world. By linking data in this way, we unlock the potential for rich, interconnected experiences and deeper insights into the relationships between ingredients, recipes, and regional food systems.

Public Access vs. Member Features

Anyone can browse the Recipe Library, explore published menus, use the Recipe Builder, and access our Tools — no account required.

A free account unlocks the full platform, this is a purposefully maintained site and these features are for those who have a use for the extra functionality and can provide valuable feedback for further development:

Menu Building

Group recipes into Menus — themed collections like a holiday dinner, a weekly meal plan, or a catering lineup. Each menu aggregates cost, seasonality scores, and servings across its recipes, and you can generate a consolidated purchase order for the whole menu. Invite collaborators as viewers or editors to plan together.

Campaigns

Campaigns let you organize multiple menus under a single umbrella — perfect for seasonal rollouts, marketing pushes, or multi-event planning. Set date ranges, add descriptions, and invite collaborators at the campaign level. For even larger efforts, bundle campaigns into Campaign Groups for a top-level overview.

Save, Publish & Collaborate

With an account you can save recipes in progress, publish them to the library for others to discover, and manage collaborator access across your menus and campaigns. All your work stays linked through the same structured data that powers the rest of the platform.
